about

Composed for a dance of the same name, choreographed by Daisy Karen Thompson. Gabriel Saloman (Yellow Swans, Mudsuckers) begins Riots Don’t Just Happen with a shuddering drum roll before settling into a series of brooding, rumbling guitar drones. The ensuing pull and push is suggestive of a restless mass, rearranging itself and reforming. Military drums disrupt the standoff and with this call to arms tension swiftly mounts as the atmosphere becomes denser and increasingly claustrophobic. There is a narrative element to Riots which evokes an unrest building on the back of long simmering strain and provocation.
Infinite Greyscale Records starts with two very limited edition 10” vinyl art pieces by celebrated musicians Gabriel Saloman and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma. Both are single sided records, pressed on cherry-red (Gabriel Saloman) and canary-yellow (Jefre Cantu-Ledesma) vinyl respectively. Each record has a screen-printed b-side by master screen-printer, Ulrich Schmidt-Novak.
All the artwork was handmade by artists Paul McDevitt & Cornelius Quabeck using a Risograph printer in combination with spray paint. Both records feature a long-form piece of music as a singular statement from each musician. Each release is a numbered edition of 300 and will not be repressed. It comes with a photograph, insert, and download code. Both records were mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin.
